Elisa Krey is an artist who has been working as a professional photographer for the past 20 years & more recently a creative designer & ceramicist. Her childhood reptile collection, boat deliveries & now a studio in the Hunter Valley, all have contributed to the work she creates today.
Kreyfarer handmade ceramics & unique designs bring a distinctive look to the craft & the industry, combining photography, design & ceramics. The aim is to fossilise the images as most things in today’s digital world are transient. Printing on to the ceramic surface using this technique is permanent, UV & scratch resistant. The images are kiln fired on to the ceramics & each are one of a kind.
As a sailor & later a captain, she has sailed around the world. On a trip to Portugal & Morocco she fell in love with the ancient technique of ceramic tiles & its history. Since then, ceramics became an obsession. By combining all of her passions, she created Kreyfarer.
The tile murals have an antique look resembling those of the old world still found in so many buildings influenced by Arabic culture. This intriguing & ancient art is the basis of her passion for ceramics. In Elisa’s studio, the traditional tile mural is transformed into a contemporary art form that can be featured indoors or outdoors….in commercial spaces, cafes, restaurants & hotels, as well as private residences.
